I encourage you to volunteer for the City’s eighth bi-annual Street Count of Rough Sleepers from 1-3am on Tuesday 21 February.
Council relies on volunteers to collect the data that helps monitor homelessness and track progress in getting people off the streets. In February 2011, 418 people were counted sleeping rough.
The City has a training session on 13 February and volunteer manual so you know what to do, but you need to register before 6 February. You can register online or get download and send in the form from the City’s website.
The City of Sydney has a dedicated Homelessness Unit to help address the needs of people experiencing homelessness – and we are Australia’s only local council to do so.
